Sadness By Name

“Sadness By Name” was a blog that I started on December 16, 2009. I had started “How Can They Intend to Heal” a few months prior but was forced to focus only on Canadian bands so I started a separate blog where I would only interview bands, regardless of their location. I also chose to host it on Blogspot to compare it with the WordPress operated HCTITH, and also because it seemed that every blogger used Blogspot.

On December 19th 2009 I created four potential logos for the site, none of which ended up being used. The background was the same which Jeremy Roux had created for Abridged Pause Recordings in 2008, but I had modified it to a yellow tint instead of blue.

This was the About section

Sadness by Name is a webzine that concentrates on interviewing influential artists in the lesser known genres of music. We feel that these people deserve to be heard, and we are here to present their declarations to you. These extensive interviews will cover aspects of the band that fans of the band and genre would truly be astound to read about.

We hope you will enjoy these publications.

If you would like to set up an interview, please visit one of our profiles, and you will find an email through which you can contact us with.

In 2009 I had started my collaboration with Robert Forgacs when he released the Soufferance album “Travels Into Several Remote Nations of the Mind”, initially due out in June 2009, but it was delayed until July 2010. I asked him if he wanted to join me on this new blog and interview ambient bands, because there was nothing online anywhere that focused on interview bands from the ambient scene. He happily joined but never contributed to a single thing.

The first person that I interviewed was Garry Brents about his post-rock band Parabstruse. The interview was posted in January of 2010 and covered the entire span of the bands career. The second post was an interview with myself for Vision Éternel which was published two months later in March of 2010. The third interview was another two months later, in May of 2010, with Will McEvilly of Castevet. A fourth interview was planned for two months later, in July of 2010, for Soufferance but it was never finished. At the time, it seemed that an interview every two months was not enough and I quickly abandoned the site.

In August of 2013, the three published interviews from Sadness By Name, plus a finished Soufferance interview, were merged with How Can They Intend to Heal? into the Abridged Pause Blog.
