Throne of Mortality – Summer ’05 Demos

Somewhere behind the lines, something about The Slopin Fairy 7 evolved into Throne of Mortality. Even if there was a big gap of nothing in between, and even some droplets of completely different material. The System of a Down cover band and the Eighteen Visions/Bleeding Through influenced metalcore compositions were somehow fit between these two, but the fact is that the part of me that was in TSF7 was also in the early stages of TOM. What I mean by that is that when I first began writing material with this death metal influenced band (the black metal had not seeped in yet), I still had that metalcore approach to it. I even still played in drop B tunning. The very last TSF7 songs were total mid-2000s metalcore rip off, and one song evolved into the first TOM song. That song was Ballad for a Goddess. It is also the only song I still have from the long lost “Summer ’05 Demos”. Thanks to Darklink (Phil Altobelli) keeping some material accidentally, I now have a version of that song. Ballad for a Goddess would itself evolved into “Vakker I Måneskinnet”, which would itself change name to “La Belle Sous La Lune”. This first TOM demo is completely lost, other than this one song, saved by the great Darklink. I believe Ballad was recorded in June, along with perhaps another song. There was likely a final song(s) recorded in July just prior to the digital myspace release. “You Will Die” was kept for a while, and appears on every single demo. This is because it was the first true black metal song I ever wrote. “Thy Shall Kill” likely evolved into “James Stewart” or “July 8th 1947”.

note: this has to be more like july or august because there had to have been enough time to the Dan band, then Brandi leaving, then Mikey coming into the band.
