The phases were something I came up with during the days in Triskalyon. It was a way for me to categorize the changes in mood in the music I was creating, and tragic changes in my life. Even though the names started being used in late 2006, I created phases for the closely nit past experiences of 2005.

Pre-Phases (January 1988-December 2004): Material written or composed in the “Pre-Phases” includes everything prior to late December of 2004, when I wasn’t aware of how much creativity was in me. I wrote or composed here and there and didn’t focus on it. Part of the “Pre-Phase” includes a sub-phase of it’s own which I refer to as the “Hospital Phase”. The “Hospital Phase” started in November of 2004 and lasted until March of 2005. But this phase had very little material due to the high level of medications that I was on, and somewhat overlaps with The Recovery Phase.

Phase 1: The Recovery Phase (December 2004-December 2005): Outputs created during the period of late December 2004 to December 2005. Outputs here are dedicated to Brandi Hoke as it goes from meeting her (December 2004) to our breakup (July 2005) and through getting over her for the next many months. Kristin Klacik. This phase ended when I started talking to Dylan in late December of 2005.

Phase 2: The Past Resort Phase (January 2006-July 8th 2006): Outputs created during the period of January 2006 to July 8th, 2006. Outputs here are mostly dedicated to Dylan Seymour as I started talking to her in January and came back from her place in May 2006. July 2006 was when I met Anne-Marie.

Phase 3: La Phase de Patience (July 8th 2006-September 2006): Outputs created during the period of July 8th, 2006 to September 2006. Outputs here are mostly dedicated to Anne-Marie Bouchard (Bilou) and end when I moved back to Montreal for the first time.

Phase 4: La Phase Mélancolique (September 2006-October 2006): Outputs created during late September and October 2006. It was during this time that I started using phases to split up my creations. This was while I had first moved back to Montreal and the beginning of Triskalyon.

Phase 5: The Betrayal Phase (November 2006-April 2007): Outputs created during the period of late November 2006 to April 2007. These outputs were created in New York and New Jersey and lasted until the end of Triskalyon.

Phase 6: La Phase Antipathic (May 2007-August 2009): Outputs created during the period of approximately May 2007 to August 2009. From May to August 2007, I was still in New Jersey, however everything after that was back in Montreal. Many girls are dedicated in this phase, but the important ones include Léonie Gascon, Carolyn Kingsland and Sonya Kertland. Kristina Zub. Sam.

Phase 7: The Profound Self-Hatred Phase (September 2009-December 2010): Outputs created during the period of September 2009 to December 2010. A rather dark area of my life where writings got much more complex and intertwined. This phase ended when I fell in love with Laura, although I had been going out with her since June 1st 2010. Special dedications in this phase are to Rani-Gabrielle Dubé Paré and Marina Polak.

Phase 8: The Complication of Togetherness Phase (December 2010-May 2012): Outputs created as early as December 2010, but that started to shine in January 2011. This entire phase is dedicated to Laura Dolgy. This phase was originally credited under the working title of “A Love Phase”, but I was never happy with this title.

Phase 9: The Individualism of Distance Phase (May 2012-May 8th 2020): A phase that could possibly have begun as early as May 2012, when I met Amanda Brownridge. It includes the death of my grandmother in July 2012 but flourished and really took place in October 2012 when I met Amorine Dallançon and when she left me in January 2013. A few attempts were made to start writing music again during this time but very little happened. It wasn’t until January of 2014 that music started being recorded again. The phase continued on when I met Rain Frances. The connection between the two parts of this phase are that I went from dating a girl that lived in France and whom I had never met in person, to living with a girl after our first date and being with her for over ten years; hence the individualism of distance.

Phase 10: (May 8th 2020-Present)
The idea to branch off into a new phase after leaving Quebec first came to me on November 17th 2019. At that timer, Rain and I already known that we were going to be leaving Quebec and move to one of the Maritimes province; we had been trying to find a home there for a couple of years. We finally did find a home in New Brunswick in 2020 and officially moved out of Quebec, and into New Brunswick, on May 8th 2020. The start of a new era. It was only on July 16th 2020 that I made this new phase official, however, still without finding a proper name for it. After Rain and I started facing irreconcilable differences once she had her house in New Brunswick, I contemplated moving out and officially starting the new phase. I didn’t want to change phases yet because the name of Phase 9 was so appropriate.
