hey bruno! as youve probly read, ive just released the first album of my dark ambient band Soufferance, Vision. i was wondering if you had a few zines or blogs that you could suggest to me that also enjoyed the immundus material, because i feel they would really like my own stuff.

yes youre right about that… but it was in a deeper way that they fucked me over. some blogs asked me if they could review my material. they came up to me as fans… so i sent them review material, and they came back saying it was really good, and they would make some posts. so to thank them i would send them unreleased stuff but for them only. and some of those blogs ended up posting that unreleased material for free download on their website….

oh…….thats very sneaky…..I understand the frustation very well…although I never been on that situation, I can picture it very well…….
And yes Soufferance Vision produces great music. I know…well…Mike reminded me that sometime ago you asked me about doing a split?

oh mike… he asked me why i was jealous of you haha. this was well over a year ago… i think i had just finished the album and had left over material and wanted to do a split. i sent you a message on myspace and it ended there. part of it was probly my fault, i didnt even have a myspace or any demos up anywhere…

Jealous? hehe…nothing to be jealous about lol
Yes, I really dont remember, but also I had some who wanted that, but I never been interested on splits. (nothing personal though)
I feel more enjoyable working on collaborating with other artists (creating songs together etc..), like I did on the Method Learned II release. So if you would ever be interested on something like that, never a problem:)

ya id be interested in doing something like that… how do you usually work? you do samples first and then send it to the other to record his stuff over it?

also, how much did your website cost you? im considering having one for Soufferance, but im not sure if its still worth it, you know with facebook and bandcamp and all the various sites that offer similar stuff.

I used Ensamvarg Design services for my website as well as the myspace layout, they are professional at what they do and reliable, as for pricing im really not sure, the myspace costed me around 60 bucks but the website was more expensive, perhaps twice as much, but I would have to double check that to say it for sure. still i liked the work they did on it. I always think is worth for a project or a band to have its own place.
As for collaboration work it really depends, the way I worked with Project N.A. and Klingwall was great, we worked through layering eachother and filling the song as we came along, sending the mixes back and forward, (this last parts seems confusing but is not) hehe,
also for example if u have something on the works and I have something on the works, we can kind of try to blend it or complete eachother by adding new sections on a track…so there are many ways, normally the hard part is to kickstart….

well i tend to work with long songs. usually its all little pieces that end up as a long song. so i have an idea with that.. we could have a collaborating song, in this way:
part 1: i do a long backing track on bass or guitar and you do your stuff over it so that you shine the most, and my stuff is background
part2: your stuff is the backing piece and i do my guitar or vocals over it to make it stand out.
we could go back and forth between parts like that as long as we want, and also potentially each parts would fade into each other. so we could chose to have 1 long track or various parts individually.
what do you think of that idea? i dont want us to settle on any “decent idea”. if we are to do a collaboration, it should be an idea that we both feel really excited about.

I dont know much about what post-punk is either to be honest….but the bass line is sounding nice…i can think of some ideas for something like this for example….let me know whenever you are ready for something and we take it from there….
ps. due to work and family life i work a bit slow nowadays, besides, I dont like to create music in rush, so hope ur cool is a relaxed tempo;)

i also found some old bass demos i was thinking of using. if you like some of them you can incorporate them into what were doing…
maybe we can start with these tracks ive sent you and see what you can do over that, and then see what i can do over that…

alright cool! if you dont like the GF tracks too much, dont worry about it, they were recorded in february 2007. we can always work with new material i can record in the veins of Dementia Preacox or the first bass song i sent you.

new idea
hey man, i just had this idea… and seeing with all the time we have and the delays of releases, i think they could be a good idea for a release a year from now, for halloween 2011.
of course its just an idea because i dont know if you are a dracula fan… im a very big fan. and i was watching the first hammer filme today from 1958 and i wanted to compose a soundtrack to the film, or at least to part of the film. we could select the key moments from a specific dracula film and splice it together into a shorter movie, and compose the entire soundtrack to that shorter film.
what do you think of this idea? it wouldnt have to be a horror soundtrack, i think that our sounds together would create the proper atmosphere by itself.

aha! now that sounds brilliant! yes this sounds good and also i think is nice to start something from the scratch as well:) I a big fan of Dracula myself also and this sounds like something we could definitely work on. but…um…how to get the movies?
Nevertheless, Im most interested:)

well as far as Soufferance goes, im very anti-conventional. i dont like doing things that are the standard in media. the first EP is in mini dvd keepcase, and the full length album is a dvd sized digipack audio album… i think that with this it could be simply a digital release, and video only. because we couldnt sell the video protion. we could possibly sell the soundtrack on bandcamp or something, but the video would have to be free. i have the video on my computer and i know mike obrien is good with video editing, but i could also do it myself.
i think i will work with him on editing specific scenes from the film, and then we could compose over that.
once the music is composed we can worry more about how to release it and such…

Yes. Digital release seems fine by me, understandable about the movie (copyright and so on….) but now…since you mentioned possible profits, how would we split that? or would u think as releasing it for eachother,? well…is too early anyway to think of it…either way when the time comes, let me know what u have in mind in concrete.
Must say the idea with the video is outstanding, i, unfortunately im not good on editing video despite the software I have to create quality videos, i still suck on it due to time lacking…..so I will be on hold until the video is ready then….Keep me posted

hello there
Hi!
Wanted to stop by to let you know that I will send out the new mix up to you on friday, so u have a listen and let me know what u think. If you feel you could add some more extra on it do it, if not we let it be as it is.
Right now all i know about our collaboration is to have it released during the summer or perhaps a bit earlier, my plan is to compile a release with previous released exclusives which were only available via V/As, and put them all together on a free release. and on the other side a collection of collaboration works, either 3 or 4 songs together with you if u would like, or we stick to this song which either way will be included.
let me know how it sounds and if you would like to work on some more songs.
regards
Bruno

are you talking about sides like vinyl?
im down to collaborate on whatever you send me dude! if you send me 10 songs, ill make stuff for all 10! i think my creative process has been great so far and very easy for me to write stuff over your material. so its totally up to you as far as how many songs you wish to collaborate on! an entire album could also work!
but a compilation of stuff could be cool as well! is this going to be a Q23 release as well?
Facebook User
2/9, 4:47pm
Facebook User
Yes, something like that, half a small compilation with the exclusives all combined and the other half we could work on a 4 songs…
I think it would be nice to create a full-lenght and send it away for free. A good way of promoting new music and our projects while working on the next full album release if you know what I mean.
That way I promote not only my music but your name as well, and if you eventually release those songs as well on one of your releases, is a good way for mutual help and promotion;)
As far as the release part, I still havent talked to Q23 about it, since is still too early but I will send him a shout about it soon enough, i think Q23 are great, so im hoping to keep staying with the label for my releases.
I have another song already on the works so I can send you a base also during this weekend. let me know if you have anything going on I could work on top of it, or if u just prefer this way we have been doing.

honestly, i feel like my bass tracks are very buried in the mix you made. i can hardly hear them at all, and for some parts of the songs, its completely inaudible. with all the layers you added, which are good, there isnt much space left for me to add anything else. so would it be possible to make my tracks stand out a bit more?
but as a whole i think the song sounds great. i hope youre not offended by any of my “requests”.

hey dude. it sounds great. there are a few “pops” around 0:20, but maybe they are intentional?
I was also thinking that, since this is only going to be a small collaboration, of only a few song rather than an album, i would prefer to simply be credited as Virkelix, my artist name, rather than Soufferance as a band. So when you post the album only, i assume you will be adding a (featuring Virkelix) or something with the song?

My first encounters with Immundus were through out 2009. First when he was signed to Hypnotic Dirge Records, and then when he was featured on the same compilation as Soufferance, Alone with the Rain. I read up a bit on the band, and he had self proclaimed himself as a big band. He had given the impression of being a superstar and that everyone was demanding his music. So I decided I would contact him about doing a split or a collaboration. I felt I could benefit from his influences.

The first few emails I sent to him he never responded. It wasn’t until a whole year later I was signed to Quartier23 that he decided I was worth his time. He was also signed to the label. He sent me a message asking to collaborate. The first thing we discussed was doing a full length album for a soundtrack to a movie. We were going to make a soundtrack for Dracula. i was going to make a mix of various scenes of all the Christopher Lee films into a long film.

It took a few months until he finally sent me something to work with. On January 28th 2011 he sent me a backing track that I would compose over. I did an entire bass piece, and sent it back to him to mixing. He sent it back to me a week later completely buried in, hardly audible. I had to mix it myself to get something decent, but he never approved of my version and preferred his own where my parts were hardly important. He then told me that he didn’t want to use our collaboration on a full length album anymore and he would only include it on a digital compilation of already released material, with this being the only unreleased piece on it. I really felt that he was pushing my work in a corner and not giving a shit about it.

Mike O’Brien did a music video for Immundus sometime around then and he asked me his opinion. I told him it was pretty average, because I didn’t like the movie that was used in the video. It was a film that was used in a load of videos already, so it wasn’t original. Immundus got completely pissed off and blocked me off facebook, and started talking shit about me to the Quartier23 crew. And so ended my collaboration with him and the label.

I decided to beat him to the punch and give the song for free on the digital version of “Bonjour Tristesse”. I named the song “A Nightmare Ends” in significance to Immundus’ asshole personality and of the end of the collaboration with him and the record label.

On July 27th, 2011, I once again had an idea of using the name of Immundus for additional promotion. I decided to do a quick music video for the song we collaborated on with footage from one of my favorite film noirs “Murder, My Sweet”. It was very quickly made, but it’s only purpose was to shed additional light on Soufferance. Immundus however posted accusations on his personal website saying that I had stolen a work in progress song he had shared with me and added some cheap stolen sounds over it. This complaint was taken to Youtube, who removed the music video I had made and also temporarily blocked my account. This would also set me back from releasing further Soufferance material, during the cassette tape mission.
