Vision Lunar – Mother Song/Eternal Song

These were the two songs composed in February of 2007 (exact date unknown) that caused me to start doubting Triskalyon. There was also a few zines/posers affair, but principally it was inner troubles within the members. Triskalyon technically could have continued with just me, but it would of been pointless. Darklink (Phil Altobelli) and Surhim were the most important people to me when it came to my compositions, and what they didn’t like wouldn’t get released. As was the case with these two songs that I considered masterpieces! Though they now both sound distinctively like Lunar songs, one was not originally composed as a Lunar song.

“Eternal Song” was recorded twice. Each played in slightly different notes, and on one night apart, each having its own mood. They were both recorded very late at night, past midnight for sure, while I was the only one still awake in the whole town. “Eternal Song” was created as a possibility for Vision Éternel to evolve into. This presents the dilemma I found myself thinking about greatly later on; what if I had never separated every single piece of song I wrote and kept them all as one band. What would it have sounded like? Obviously VE never took that turn, and stayed a “melogaze” band.

“Mother Song” was one of the most personal song I wrote in the entire Lunar catalog. And it hurt me deeply when the other members of Triskalyon didn’t get the same emotions out of it as me. In fact they thought it was pretty bad. It was on a late afternoon at my parents house in NJ. My family was in a divorce and my three sisters and I were caught in between fighting parents. On this afternoon my mom was yelling at my sisters about whatever it was. It was a mess and it was emotional. Everyone was fucked up and angry at each other back then. I put on my headphones, plugged in my guitar and jammed this whole piece out to block out all the sounds possible. It was my way of escaping the pain of an uncaring mother.

Both of these songs should have been released as Vision Lunar monthly demos, especially “Mother Song”. And it is a great regret that they never were. And I can’t help but put the blame on Triskalyon members… The riff from the intro of “Mother Song” was used in the Vision Éternel song “Season in Lust” which was recorded during the summer of 2007.
