These demos were recorded in October 2005 and not only marked the first time I was alone in Throne of Mortality, but also the last recordings of the death metal pieces in TOM (although I did re-record some of them later on to see what I still had in me). I had an intro which was a Pink Floyd cover, I don’t know why I had that in the black metal band… What’s funny is that years later, I still enjoy the stuff I wrote, even if I find it premature and a great mix of metalcore, death metal and old school black metal. I don’t think anyone else will like it now because its aged badly but for me it was good. “July 8th 1947” is both a reference to Hypocrisy and Roswell, New Mexico, however the first riff is a complete ripoff Burzum’s “War”, and was originally an idea of Howie. I recall him saying something like “no one will fucking know”, which ended up being true.
I’m not sure where the opening drawn out riff from “James Stewart” came from. But the faster picking that came after was influenced by the Magwi song “Dream of Suicide”. The breakdown at the end is influenced by the Hypocrisy song “Stillborn”, as I had discovered their album “The Arrival” earlier that summer. The name of the song was chosen because at the time I was heavily getting into James Stewart’s films from the 40’s and 50’s, particularly his westerns, after discovering him in the Hitchcock films.
