I knew what it was like to be rushed for a new song with “Luna Borea”, so I didn’t allow myself to be in that situation again with “Luna Maria”. It was on the late night of January 13th 2007, two days before my birthday, and I was jamming some stuff, already plugged in my computer ready to record with my brand new AKG headphones on. My father was doing business work on the computer in an open room right next to me and my sisters were watching TV right behind me in the same room. There definitely was a lot going on in the house, including a divorce. I started by recording the backing track, which was just an open D chord all the way through. I hadn’t even composed the song yet and had no clue how long it would be, so I just palm muted until I felt it was enough. it had a very industrial feel to it by the time I had the reverb and effects in. Every noise in the intro and opening riff were made by hitting my guitar at different places with a lot of reverb and echo and distortion. I think a lot of people were clueless as to what the fuck it was when they first heard it. Then it went into typical Lunar riffs which were progressed to anxiety with double guitars and some pinch harmonics. The finale was one of the most amazing riffs I ever accomplished and I think its seriously equally as good as the high point of “L’esprit dans le Ciel”. But for some reason “Le Démon de la Lune” just didn’t get as much feedback as it. People thought i needed to do something more majestic than “Luna Borea”, and to me this stuff was. “Luna Maria” and its successor “Luna Nebula” were just as good, if not better! But it wasn’t appreciated as such. I think this is where Lansquenet started to not give a fuck because the artwork is really fucking shitty. In fact I would refuse the one he would do for the following Lunar demos and make my own. I almost named this album “Lunar Sea” but I wanted it to rhyme with “Luna Borea” so I spent the evening looking on Wikipedia for names in the astronomic field.
