While reproducing/remaking the whole second full-length album in February of 2011, I realized that two specific pieces I had composed were incredibly important and moving to me. They were the two pieces that showed the most my Swans influence. I knew the album wouldn’t be out for a while, so I decided to make a quick preview of those two pieces for some fans. “First Song” (which was later retitled to Alternating Perfections) and “Moving Piece” (which was later retitled to Absence as Fonder Hearts) were cut down to about 2 minutes each, for which I selected three scenes from a Frank Perry film “David and Lisa” from 1962. The scenes from the film that I chose don’t represent what the film is about, but it does match really well the mood of the songs that I had selected. It’s dark, abstract, and pretty much left everyone wondering “what movie this is from?!?”. I liked that a lot because it wasn’t like using something from a Kubrick movie. This time I really went underground and found stuff that everyone was intrigued by, but no one could find what it was from! I also like the fact that it has a scene with Clifton James, which I’ve always respected as an actor. This was before his James Bond fame.
